Exporting to Geospatial File Types

The Exporting to common Geospatial File Types functionality is only available with the OpenCities Map Advanced and OpenCities Map Ultimate editions.

The export module allows for the exchange of graphical data and associated non-graphical property information of a variety of geospatial file formats. Geospatial file types are also referred to as GIS files.

  • ESRI® Shapefile (SHP) creates at three files in the same directory, with the same name and following extensions: .SHP (geometry), .SHX (index), and .DBF (non-graphical property attributes for the geometry). If the design file has a coordinate system defined, an accompanying PRJ file will be created.
  • MapInfo® MIF/MID (MapInfo® Interchange Format) export creates two files in the same directory, with the same name and following extensions: .MIF (geometry) and .MID (non-graphical property attributes for the geometry).
  • MapInfo® TAB (MapInfo® native file format) export creates a number of output files with the same name and in the same folder. These files make up a standard MapInfo project.
  • CSV creates a comma separated value file of property information only.
  • GML format supports Version 2.1 and 3.1 of GML. The export creates a datafile with a .GML extension.
  • Esri File Geodatabase which exports multiple features into a .GDB folder
  • DGN file which exports the contents of the open design file to MicroStation elements without XFM data.

There are several ways to customize a geospatial file export. This includes defining the spatial extents of the area being exported, incorporating a Where clause to only export certain features and selecting which properties to be included. Where supported, multiple features can be exported at once.
